Rolfing is a holistic system, a process of balancing the relationship of fascia (connective tissue) and muscular system within the body and its relationship to gravity. This leads to improved posture and facilitates ease of movement in every day life. Dr. Ida P Rolf Ph.D. pioneered this approach to posture, function, first teaching it to Chiropractors and Osteopathic physicians in the early 1950’s.
She taught that the body tells the story. Memories are held in the body regardless whether they are conscious or unconscious. Through this process of tissue work and movement education a more intrinsic awareness and potential of oneself is available. As the geometry of the body becomes more balanced a person experiences a sense of “rightness” or a sense of “where things belong”. Structural Integration balances the relationships of tissue and muscle function thus allowing new options physically and emotionally. Dr.Rolf taught that structure determines function and function determines structure. How you use your body, your given structure and your thought processes all have an influence on your body. This principle will be discussed during your session.
Dr. Rolf taught :
“If you want to reach a new conclusion, you must start with a new premise.”
